The biggest AI risk is not getting it wrong. It is not knowing where it is already being used. Doing nothing on AI isn’t a neutral position. (grab the high-res PDF here: https://lnkd.in/edMveq9Y) It’s how you end up with shadow AI, data leaks, and a team that’s already moved on without you. Here’s what actually happens when companies delay: Employees don’t wait. They use ChatGPT on their phones. They paste client data into free tools. They build workarounds you can’t see and can’t govern. You don’t have an AI problem. You have a visibility problem. So if you’re a leader who knows something needs to happen but doesn’t know where to start, here’s the plan I give every client. First, sort your access. Not free tools. Not consumer paid plans. An enterprise licence. Anything less and your data is going somewhere you didn’t agree to. Once you have it: 1. Find your champions. Who’s already using AI well? Give them airtime. Let them show the team what’s possible with real work, not demos. 2. Start with small wins. Pick one task everyone does. Show them AI makes it faster. That one moment builds more trust than any training deck ever will. 3. Run a build challenge. Give teams a week to build something. Anything. Then compare. The friendly competition unlocks creativity in a way workshops don’t. 4. If access is still being sorted, keep momentum. Give people credits to experiment in their own time. Don’t let procurement kill curiosity. Now the part most leaders skip. Some of your team are scared. Not visibly. Quietly. The person whose whole job is writing isn’t going to raise their hand and ask, “am I being replaced?” You need to name it before they do. Tell them: These are the skills I still value. These are the tasks we’re giving to AI. Your role is changing. Your role is safe. Mean it. And make sure they believe you mean it. You don’t need to become AI-native overnight. You need to start. Get the right tools in place. Find the people already running. And build from there. The companies that wait aren’t being cautious. They’re just falling behind with better excuses.
