I spent 30 minutes in Claude's Settings today and realized most people have no idea what these toggles do. Do you know which ones matter for Chat vs Cowork? Here's the breakdown most tutorials skip. ↓ Claude's desktop app has a Settings > Capabilities page with 8 settings. They look like they apply everywhere. They don't. 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲'𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲: ▶️ 𝗠𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗿𝘆 & 𝗣𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝘁𝘀 Chat uses this heavily. Cowork? It starts fresh every session. Your real context engine in Cowork is your folder files — CLAUDE.md, about-me.md, working-rules.md. Memory helps, but those files are what make Cowork actually know you. ▶️ 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀 (𝗧𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝗔𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀) Both modes. But Cowork uses connectors more aggressively because it's running multi-step workflows autonomously. Slack, Calendar, Notion — these become Cowork's information sources, not just features you can ask about. ▶️ 𝗔𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘀, 𝗔𝗜-𝗣𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗔𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘀, 𝗜𝗻𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗩𝗶𝘀𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 All three are Chat features. They render content in the conversation panel. Cowork doesn't use any of them — it creates actual .docx, .xlsx, .pptx files saved directly to your project folder. Having these on won't hurt Cowork, but it's not what Cowork uses. ▶️ 𝗖𝗹𝗼𝘂𝗱 𝗖𝗼𝗱𝗲 𝗘𝘅𝗲𝗰𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 This is where it gets interesting. In Chat, Claude runs code in a cloud sandbox. In Cowork, it runs in a local VM on your machine. Same toggle, completely different architecture underneath. ▶️ 𝗡𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗘𝗴𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀 Both modes. Controls what domains Claude can reach when it needs to install packages or access external resources. ▶️ 𝗦𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀 Both modes, but they've moved to Customize now. Skills are especially powerful in Cowork where Claude is creating actual deliverables, not just generating text. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗽𝘀 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝘂𝗽: Chat and Cowork share the same intelligence. They differ in capabilities. Chat is a conversation. Cowork is delegation. Same brain. Different relationship. If you're setting up Claude for the first time (or resetting to get it right), this is the map that saves you from toggling settings that don't apply to how you actually work. And if you're ready to go deeper, we're running a 3-day Cowork bootcamp next week. We're building real workflows, setting up your workspace brain, and walking out with systems running on your PC. Spots are limited. Link in comments. Let's build.

𝗔𝗻𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗶𝗰 𝗘𝗰𝗼𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺 𝗕𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗱𝗼𝘄𝗻: 𝗖𝗹𝗮𝘂𝗱𝗲 𝗔𝗜 𝘃𝘀. 𝗖𝗹𝗮𝘂𝗱𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗱𝗲 𝘃𝘀. 𝗖𝗹𝗮𝘂𝗱𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 Different tools for different jobs - one stack. The advantage isn’t “using AI”. It’s knowing which layer to use - and when. Let's break it down. Excellent overview by Rakesh Gohel: ⬇️ 𝟭 - 𝗖𝗹𝗮𝘂𝗱𝗲 𝗔𝗜 (𝗰𝗵𝗮𝘁𝗯𝗼𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗯𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘀𝗲𝗿/𝗮𝗽𝗽):  ➞ Use it when the work is thinking in words. It’s best at turning vague ideas into structure - drafts, summaries, plans, decisions. It gives you clarity and high-quality writing fast, but you still execute the work elsewhere. Example use cases: ✦ Turn messy notes into a 1-page brief with a recommendation ✦ Rewrite a draft in your voice and tighten it by 30% ✦ Create a decision memo: options, trade-offs, risks, next step 𝟮 - 𝗖𝗹𝗮𝘂𝗱𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗱𝗲 (𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹): ➞ Use it when the work lives in a repo. It can navigate your codebase, edit across files, run commands, and iterate with feedback like a real pair programmer. It turns intent into working code changes you can test and review. Example use cases: ✦ Create a new application with real functionalities ✦ Debug your existing database module safely ✦ Generate a migration plan, implement it, and validate with checks 𝟯 - 𝗖𝗹𝗮𝘂𝗱𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 (𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗸𝘁𝗼𝗽 𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗰𝗿𝗼𝘀𝘀 𝗳𝗶𝗹𝗲𝘀/𝗮𝗽𝗽𝘀): ➞ Use it when the work is workflows, not thinking. It shines on repetitive operations: organizing folders, extracting data, filling templates, moving things between tools. It turns multi-step busywork into a repeatable automation so you stop doing manual glue work. Example use cases: ✦ Extract tables from PDFs into a clean spreadsheet template ✦ Rename, tag, and sort hundreds of files into a consistent taxonomy ✦ Update a report pack weekly: pull inputs, clean data, export outputs --- 𝗗𝗲𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗿𝘂𝗹𝗲: ✦ Thinking and content - Chat ✦ Code and systems - Code ✦ File and app workflows - Cowork 𝗜 𝗽𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗱 𝗺𝘆 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝘁𝗲 𝗴𝘂𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝗖𝗹𝗮𝘂𝗱𝗲 𝗦𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀 𝘆𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗱𝗮𝘆 - 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 “𝗺𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗰 𝘀𝗮𝘂𝗰𝗲” 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗹𝗮𝘆𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱. 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗦𝗞𝗜𝗟𝗟𝗦 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗜’𝗹𝗹 𝘀𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝘁 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿.

𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗦𝗞𝗜𝗟𝗟𝗦 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗜’𝗹𝗹 𝘀𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝘁 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿.
