MIT researchers found why AI fails on long documents. Even when the file fits inside the context window. You paste a 200-page PDF. Ask a simple question. AI answers wrong. Even though the correct line sits in the document. This problem is called Context Rot. → More context can reduce accuracy → Models lose recall and reasoning → Not because of limits → Because too much information arrives at once The solution: Recursive Language Models (RLMs). Instead of giving the model the entire document, it explores the context step by step. → Peek small sections → Search keywords → Filter relevant parts → Solve smaller pieces recursively Think of it like this. Parent model asks the question. Child models solve smaller tasks. The parent combines the results. The insight is simple. Traditional LLMs: “Here is everything. Figure it out.” RLMs: “Here are tools. Explore the data.” This is the same idea behind modern AI agents and coding assistants. Accuracy does not derive from a larger context. It comes from better context navigation.
