Hope is where execution goes to die. And here’s the interesting part. Before anyone leaves the room, ask one simple question: “Will you be able to complete that task?” That’s it. Nine words. No pressure No threats No motivation speech Everyone says yes. And that’s the moment things change. Behavioral research shows verbal commitment can increase follow-through by around 50 percent. Same tasks. But now people care more, because they’ve made a verbal commitment. Once people say "yes" out loud, their brain starts protecting that identity. Breaking word after commitment feels personal, not procedural. This principle doesn’t stop at meetings. It works in emails. Sales calls. Newsletters. Maybe not as powerfully as face to face, but enough to move behavior. Instead of ending with passive lines like “Hope this helps,” end with prompts that require a response. For example: “Will you apply this before the end of today?” “Can you try this once before our next email?” “Will you commit to testing this for one week?” You are not forcing action. You are asking for agreement. And agreement changes behavior. Most businesses talk at people. Very few ask them to step into action with intention. That is why follow-through is rare.
